Wednesday has been officially renewed for Season 2 at Netflix:
Wednesday is returning to Netflix for more supernatural-infused mystery. The series centered on the Addams Family’s morbid teen daughter (played by TVLine Performer of the Year finalist Jenna Ortega) has been renewed for Season 2, according to TVLine. For the past three cycles, Wednesday has dominated Nielsen’s weekly ranking of original series in the United States.
It amassed just shy of 6 billion minutes viewed (across only eight episodes) in its first week (and with only a few days of eligibility), a feat only surpassed by Stranger Things 4’s 7.2 billion minutes last Memorial Day weekend (for 32 available episodes). Wednesday’s Nielsen tally increased to 11.3 billion minutes in its second week, trailing only Stranger Things’ 12.3 billion minutes in the first two weeks following Season 4’s release. Wednesday had added another 3.3 billion minutes of viewing time to its total as of the last count.
Season 1 followed Wednesday’s attempts to understand her newly discovered psychic ability while also attempting to stop a monstrous killing spree and solve a 25-year-old mystery involving her parents. The finale revealed that Tyler, a hyde, had been duped into the local slayings by Ms. Thornhill (Christina Ricci) as part of an elaborate revenge plot. Miles Millar, the series’ co-creator, previously stated that if the show is renewed, he plans to explore more of the Addams Family dynamic. “We felt like we only scratched the surface with those characters, and the actors are incredible in those roles,” he told TVLine.

“The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also important to the show, as is the idea that Wednesday is attempting to carve her own path outside of the family.” However, because the show is called Wednesday, they “really want to focus the show on Wednesday.” “Definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we get a second season,” they say.
