Jennifer Hudson Achieves EGOT Status With A Strange Loop Tony Win

Jennifer Hudson has gone from American Idol also-ran to Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and, now, Tony winner.

On Sunday Hudson officially achieved EGOT status,

winning a Tony as one of the celebrity producers for the night’s best musical winner, A Strange Loop.

Hudson coproduced A Strange Loop—which won best musical and best book of a musical for scribe

Michael R. Jackson—with other celebrities including RuPaul Charles, Don Cheadle, Mindy Kaling, Billy Porter, and Alan Cumming, among others.

Hudson’s EGOT journey began when she won the best supporting actress Oscar for playing Effie White in Dreamgirls in 2007.

She followed that up with two Grammys, winning best R&B album for Jennifer Hudson in 2009

and best musical theater album for The Color Purple in 2017.

In 2021 she won a Daytime Emmy for outstanding interactive media

for a daytime program for executive producing the animated short “Baba Yaga.”
