Introduction: 

The University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in Oxford, England. it is very oldest university in the English-speaking world and oxford is world’s second-oldest university in continuous operation. Oxford is ranked among the most reputed universities in the world.

The Oxford university consists of thirty-nine (39) semi-autonomous constituent colleges, six (6) permanent private halls, and a range of academic departments organized into four (4) divisions. All the colleges are autonomous institutions within the university, each with its own membership and its own internal structure and activities. Each student is members of a college.

It has no main campus, and its buildings and facilities are in the city Centre. Undergraduate teaching lectures at Oxford consists of lectures, small-group tutorials in colleges and halls, seminars, laboratory work and occasionally further tutorials provided by the central university faculties and departments. Postgraduate education is provided predominantly centrally. Oxford university operates the world’s oldest university museum, as well as it runs the world’s largest university press and also the largest academic library system nationwide.

Oxford has taught a wide range of notable alumni, including 28 prime ministers of the United Kingdom and several heads of state and government from around the world. As of October 2020, 72 Nobel Prize winning, three Fields Medalists, and 6 Turing Award winners have studied at the University of Oxford, worked, or held visiting fellowships. and university’s alumni have won 160 Olympic medals. Oxford university is the home of a lot of scholarships, including the Rhodes Scholarship, one of the oldest international graduate scholarship programs.

 

Foundation of oxford university:

 

The history of founding of the oxford university is unknown. It is known that education at Oxford existed in some form as early as 1096, but it is not clear when a university came into being. The scholar Theobald of Etampes lectured at Oxford in the early 1100s in the oxford university. It increased rapidly from 1167 when English students returned from the University of Paris. The historian Gerald of Wales lectured to such scholars in 1188in oxford university, and the first known foreign scholar, Emo of Friesland, arrived in 1190. The head of the university had been the title of chancellor since at least 1201, and the master was recognized as a universities or corporation in 1231. The royal charter was issued in 1248 during the rule of King Henry lll. Cambridge university was formed in 1909 after some academic fled violently to Cambridge following a dispute between students and the people of oxford.
