Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University was initiated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 23rd August, 1958. The Bamu university was also known as Marathwada University. Today, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University has achieved distinctive qualitative progress educationally. The extensive campus of about seven hundred twenty-five acres of land is covered by huge hills on the western side of Aurangabad caves and to its east side is Bibi Ka Makhbara and picturesque sky-line. The Bamu has Some of its beautiful attractions are the history museum and the green botanical garden, the administration of university maintained and took care of environment of the university. The campus also has a badminton hall, library, computer lab, swimming pool and gymnasium of Olympic level.
On 14th January,1994, the university changed the name to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar as Marathwada University. After renaming of seven districts in Marathwada, the college in four districts i.e., Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed and Osmanabad were annexed to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. During these years, The Bamu started 13 faculties including arts, social sciences, science, commerce, fine arts, physical education, medicine, engineering, law education, Ayurveda, homeopathy and management science. Library:
The central library (knowledge resource center) of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University was established in December, 1959. on 16th October, 1960, the foundation stone of the library was laid by former President of India Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. The library has good collection of 3,26,450 books and periodicals of subjects in Management and field. The Bamu library also has a large collection of the videocassettes and CDs on a variety of subjects required for studies and general development for management students. except Public & National holidays the library timings are 10.20 am to 6.00 p.m. from Monday – Saturday for all the students. the peaceful reading hall of the library remains open from 7 am to 12 pm midnight.
Hostels:
The University has a boy’s and girl’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. Boys and Girls have been allotted separate hostels. Students have been allotted hostels on the basis of availability of rooms. Students will have to apply for accommodation in hostels in different way. All the hostels of BAMU University provides basic facilities for the comfortable stay of students. There are wardens in the hostels to maintain the rules and regulations of hostels. There is Mess facilities also available in hostels which serves quality and hygienic food to students.

Computer lab:
The Bamu University has a departmental based laboratories facility for the science faculty students. The computer laboratory is well equipped with very latest configuration and peripherals. Students are encouraged and helped to master the packages like MS- Office 2003, Oracle 9I, Tally 6.3, Visual Studio. New Software Packages are constantly added to keep students abreast of the latest development. A well-educated and qualified team visiting faculties and instructor attend the students to ensure the new users become familiar with computer usage and that user practice to upgrade their knowledge and skills. The computer lab is useful to numerous MBA subjects. all the students are provided The Internet facility from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Healthcare:
To keep students, resident employees and their families healthy, happy and joyful Healthcare facilities are also provided in the BAMU University campus which was established on 30th May, 1998. The primary duties of the health center has started its functioning provide advance equipment including X-ray, Nebulizer, Autoclave for sterilization, two consulting rooms, Dressing room Dispensary room, Registration room, X-ray room. Medical officers and nurses are there to provide latest medical treatments to the students, staff and faculty of the University. The health center remains open from 8.00 am to 11.30 am in the morning and 3.00 pm to 6.30 pm in the evening to provide medical facilities in the university campus.
